2nd AMWAJ forum to advance SDGs around the Mediterranean and beyond

With extensive international participation, Barcelona is preparing to host "AMWAJ” Forum, bringing together young professional journalists, researchers and policy-makers with seasoned specialists from over 20 countries around the Mediterranean and beyond.

This  2nd edition of AMWAJ will take place on 29-30 October at the Pedralbes Palace – also the headquarters of the Union for the Mediterranean, with focus on  highlighting the problems of water and sustainability around the Mediterranean to explore the most efficient and sustainable ways to increase the guarantee of this precious resource, in a context of broad climate variability and the progressive reduction of water resources and water availability,” as  states Marta Subirà i Roca, Secretary of Environment and Sustainability of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

“AMWAJ promotes the exchange of knowledge and experience among water administrations, companies, researchers and journalists from around the Mediterranean; AMWAJ promotes the dissemination of proposals and alternatives to face the water challenges of the future and to increase knowledge and awareness of the value of water among citizens.”

A special showing will also take place of a new virtual reality film – The Disappearing Oasis – about M’hamid El Ghizlane, an oasis in south-east Morocco that has been affected by climate change and threatened by the encroaching Sahara Desert.

The forum creates a space where participants from media, research and policy can connect, collaborate, and explore the power of immersive media and ideate stories on sustainability

AMWAJ covers the interconnected issues of water and energy, climate and agriculture, innovation and technology, management and governance, and more. The objective of the program is to promote the exchange of knowledge and challenging debates while strengthening alliances and networks. With this, the initiative educates and inspires on how water is essential, invaluable and needs investment. AMWAJ aim to increase public and political demand for natural solutions, and involves the media, entrepreneurs and researchers to generate positive change.

AMWAJ brings together the public and private sectors, leaders in environmental sustainability, social entrepreneurs and media to create a socially responsible community, aware of the value of natural resources and their socio-economic implications.
